Sand Storm! 2010: Act II, Scene 1; Rates of Change are Not Nearly as Normal.
As shown in the Rates Snapshot taken from the animation, there may be some useful short-term regularities in the statistics of the rates of change, of Return and Risk taken together. Specifically, the Return Rate seems to be much more narrowly distributed overall than is a Gaussian, while the Risk Rate distribution is subject to frequent and catastrophic collapse. Both rates seem to oscillate with periods on the order of a few weeks to a month, suggestive of the saltation leaps described in Act III.
Subject to further analysis of these periodicities, the strengths of Rate versus Rate seem not to be as great as for other combinations, particularly both rates dependent upon Return, as described on the next two pages.
